being held during the weekend of 4th – 6th November 2011 in the Emmaus Centre in Swords, a short journey from Dublin airport. Hosted jointly by SCBWI British Isles and SCBWI Ireland, the Writer-in-Residance for the weekend is children’s writer Steve Hartley, with guest speakers Oisín McGann (children’s author) and Elaina O’Neill (Managing Editor at Little Island).
Steve Hartley will talk about his writing journey and about ‘Keeping up appearances: How to keep your characters In Character.’ Oisín McGann will talk about ‘What Happens Next?’ and how to create an engaging story. Elaina O’Neill, Managing Editor at Little Island will be talking about the Little Island list and what they look for when they go through submissions.
The cost for the three days and two nights of great food, beautiful surroundings, lodging and a productive social ambience is €240 or £210 per person for SCBWI members.

What a great weekend! We met so many awesome writers. The presenters Steve, Oisin, and Elaina, each had something useful and interesting to offer.
Thanks to you, Ben, and Jacqui for organizing that. I wish more people had signed up, but the intimacy of a smaller group was really nice and let us get to know each other better. The Emmaus Centre was a great venue with lovely staff. I am still full from all the tea and biscuits and great meals.
